vintage me.

Typing still sucks. The burn is okay, but the deeply cut left pinky finger is not okay yet at all. Apparently yesterday's post freaked my parents out because they called me and gave me crap for not wanting to be taken to the emergency room. I had to stop by their house and show them it wasn't quite so bad. And it's not. But it's the tip of the pinky, and typing sucks. As does getting it wet. As does banging it up against anything, which seems to be all I do today.

Okay, so here's a pic to keep you entertained until I mend:

I don't know exactly when this was taken, but I know for a fact it was taken by then best girlfriend Pam, and I took one of her as well, and somewhere there is another photo of her and I together we had a passer by take for us. It was taken across the street from my apartment in Piedmont/Oakland.  I don't recall where we were headed.

I am thinking I was about 25 when this was taken, so I'd say circa 1992.

Red velvet body suit, layers of lacy sheer skirts, suede slouchy boots, and a woven vest.  And some giant earrings, and if that wasn't enough....hey, how about a hat??  Oooh, and I see that I'm holding red sunglasses.  LOL   I know it doesn't show well in the pic, but I find it hilarious that the brooch I am wearing pinned to my vest is a big giant fake engagement style ring with a big giant fake ruby set in it. Cracks me up.

Clearly I was in my pagan Stevie Nicks-ish earth mama phase of dressing, yah think??

special thanks once again to my parents who keep unearthing these little gems for you!

vintage me.

More holiday-ish vintage photos, compliments of my folks (pardon the ink bleed-through!).
At Santa's Villiage in Lake Arrowhead, CA....circa 1979 (so me, age 12), my sis in the background.

there's more where that came from!

See?  I have always loved Santa!
Even my sister couldn't ruin it ;-)

The photo is compliments of my dad who sent me a whack of them an in email today (thanks, Dad!!)

Expect a slew of these photos as I knit my way through the holiday season (try not to laugh, but I am the only person in the room, and I sittin' here watching Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer as I type this! What a goober, huh?!!).

Get a load of that sweater ;-)

vintage me

Well, it's  not that vintage of a photo, but it's definitely almost another lifetime ago.

That's me during culinary school while I was on an exchange program trip to France (which puts the photo I believe at circa 2002...10 years ago! Gah!).

I'm concentrating on a tourne of potato ;-)
I will have you know that I still own that potato peeler that is in front of me on the cutting board, too. Hahahaha (I can tell it's mine because of the green circle of tape around the handle; it's an OXO and it's da' bomb)

I'm doing some intermittent deep house cleaning/purging and finding all sorts of wack-a-doodle crap, so I'm sure there will be more.

vintage me.

Oooo, it's been a long while since I have posted a vintage photo!

That's my Mom, my Dad, me on the right, and sister on the left (see?! there really is/was a sister!)
I think I was about 12 in this photo.  It was taken at a little shop in an amusement park.

The most interesting thing to me about this photo?
What my mom looked like then, I think looks like me now.
And what I looked like then, I think looks like MyFavoriteKid now.

Foretelling, aint it?

vintage me.

Too tired to check and see if I have posted this photo once before (last night was another RassinFrassinShimShammin night of leg spasms, DangNabbit...and I am exhausted).

Hopefully I have not posted this one before and it's "a freshie".

Vintage me in headgear.

If I had to wager, it might have been my first night with it.

(and check out my mom with the Charlie's Angels hairdo!)

vintage me.

I'm pretty sure this session of dress-up was compliments of my Grammy Faye (dad's mom, still living, just turned ninety......six? seven? ....I don't know for sure because she keeps telling me she's fifty-nine):

photo is imprinted Dec 1969, putting me at about 2-1/2, almost 3 ;-)

vintage me. and mom.

Me trying to like a giant icicle. I assume this is in front of our own house, because I recognize the electric menorah in the window ;-)

Photo says December 1970 which would put me at 3-1/2 years old.

note to mom:
so, is that sort of hat you are wanting (and by want, I mean nagging LOL) me to knit you?

vintage me.

Have I shown this one yet??

I do believe this is a photo of me earning my way into (or proving my worth within) the "Whole Lobster Club" (a family tradition).

I definitely know how to handle a whole lobster ;-)
I remember in culinary school watching my classmates struggle to get the meat out in one piece in order to make a fancy presentation, and I was like, "noooooooooo problemmmmm. I have me some madz lobstah skillz."
;-)

I'm not entirely sure that I am correct on this, but I believe this photo was taken on a trip to visit my mom's family on the east coast (Boston area), and I think we might even be sitting on an outdoor patio of one my mom's favorite restaurants.

vintage me.

Me and dad cruising (what I believe to be) a marketplace in Mexico, which would put me at about age 13, I think.

Maybe they'll correct me if I'm wrong.

vintage me (in a crazy dress)

Poolside in our backyard in Southern California. I'm thinking 4th or 5th grade.
Not sure what I was "dressed up" for!

vintage me.

Again. Because I'm exhausted.

I think I was around 14.
Same age as MyFavoriteKid now.
SCARY!

I'm guessing about 6th grade?
Maybe 7th.

In 10th grade, believe it or not.
Hey, at least I made use of them legs while I had 'em.

hahahahaha

vintage me

You know what's funny....
I'd say about 90% of the time I use my laptop, I'm sitting at the dining room table.

vintage me. and dad.

Not a Freebie-Friday (again. sorry. consider that on hold until I get my head together).

They still don't know exactly what's wrong, and the results of the biopsy wont be back until early next week. They have added a new possible disease to consider though: drug-induced lupus, thanks to some medication he should have only been on for a short period of time that he's somehow been on for years.

I wanted to post something nice about my dad tonight, hence the photo, because quite frankly, I'd really like to bop him in the nose.

Dad's getting stronger, and they're getting ready to move him out of the ICU....but getting stronger for him means that he's now well enough to exhibit horrible behaviors. He's a royal pain in the arse when he gets like this, and we're all too familiar with it because he pulled this routine when he had his stroke.

He thinks my mom (and me now, too) are conspiring against him, we're "in on it", and we're "commiting" him to the hospital. He's telling my mom all sorts of nasties like he wants her to leave and that he doesn't care if she comes back or not. He's pulling at things that are plugged into him and he's ripping things out that he shouldn't be, and last night when I walked into his room, some dumb-ass nurse who wasn't breifed had given him a phone in is room and he was making calls to rent a car so he could leave. (?!!) Forget the fact that he has no pants. Or a wallet. Or a brain.

(sorry, I am so pissed)

I love him dearly, very dearly, but this my friends, is crap...and it's really hard to tolerate. It's all drug induced malarkey, we know that, and he probably wont remember any of this once he gets out. But it hurts, and it's really hard to take.

I've been somewhat hesitant to blog about all this stuff with my dad, because I know he reads my blog (when he can), and if he ever gets well enough, he might scroll back through all of this. I worry about him reading it and it upsetting him, because I really do not believe he does any of this on purpose, and I really don't think he remembers any of it. But I've just flat out come to the conclusion that this is my damn blog, and I need to process this, and well....it might not hurt for him to someday know the truth of went on behind his hospital-haze.

second verse, same as the first!

Because I spent a huge portion of my day with a migraine (a migraine in the ItsSoBadI'mTossingMyCookies category), I am simplifying things tonight with another vintage photo.

That's me, 2nd from the left....airborne.
Circa Feb 1980, as you can see from the ink bleeding through from the back of the photo.
I was a cheerleader in 8th grade, if you can believe it (and it is hard to believe, because by 9th grade, I was a flunky and a trouble-maker LOL)
